What a 20 yard dumpster rental is for
A 20 yard dumpster rental from TS Dumpsters starts at $475 and includes 2 tons of weight across 7 days on site. It is the container for demolition and for a crew working a site.
There is no 30 or 40 yard in our range, so this is the largest we deliver. On a big job, two runs at this size usually beat one oversized box that caps at the same tonnage anyway. Compare every container on the dumpster sizes page.

What Fits in a 20 Yard Dumpster
A 20 yard dumpster from TS Dumpsters holds a whole house gut job or a commercial tear out. If a crew is loading it rather than a homeowner, this is usually the right call.
Read the right hand column before you book. Comfortable means the walls fill before the scale does. Weight limited means the opposite, and those are the jobs where a bigger container solves nothing.
| Job | Typical fit |
|---|---|
| Whole house gut job | Comfortable on light debris. Watch the weight on plaster |
| Commercial tear out | Comfortable. Fixtures, partitions, ceiling grid and carpet |
| Major renovation | Comfortable. Several rooms of finish debris in one drop |
| Deck and structure removal | Comfortable on dry lumber. Pressure treated runs heavy |
| Roof tear off | Weight limited. Shingles reach 2 tons long before it fills |
Weight is measured on a certified scale at the landfill and the ticket is available on request.

Sizing
Is a 20 Yard More Than You Need?
TS Dumpsters builds the 20 and the 18 on the same 16' floor with the same 2 tons. The 20 adds six inches of wall and no extra weight allowance, so on a dense load the bigger box costs more and solves nothing.
What pushes a load past 2 tons is density, not volume. Shingles are the usual one. Wet carpet is another, and in Florida carpet gets wet fast. Plaster and ceramic tile both run heavy for how little room they take.
The extra height only pays off on debris that is light and awkward. For anything dense, the 18 yard costs less on the same footprint, and the 15 yard, which includes the same 2 tons, is closer still for a single room.
Roofing is the exception. Tear offs get their own container, priced by the ton rather than with an allowance built in: see roofing dumpster rental.

Questions
20 Yard Dumpster FAQs
Is the 20 yard the biggest dumpster TS Dumpsters rents?
Yes. There is no 30 or 40 yard in our range. Plenty of haulers carry them, so if a 40 yard is what the job genuinely needs, ask elsewhere.
What access does a 20 yard dumpster need?
It is 16' long and 7' wide, the same footprint as the 18 yard. Leave room behind it for the truck to tilt and roll off, keep the approach straight, and check for low branches and wires.
What happens if I go over 2 tons?
Overage is $80 per ton, which is what the landfill charges us, passed through with nothing added on top. The scale ticket is available on request if you want to see the weight.
Would two smaller containers be cheaper than one 20 yard?
Sometimes, and it depends entirely on weight. Two swaps on a smaller container give you two tonnage allowances. One big box gives you one. Call and describe the load and we will do the math with you.
